About Kath

Kath Farr is the fiction pen name for Kathryn Macfarlane.

Most people call me ‘Kath’ anyway, so really I just shortened the end part.

I was born in Melbourne, Australia, and grew up sailing dinghies on Port Phillip Bay, a hobby shared by my whole family. After dropping French at High School, declaring to my mother that “I would never go to France; I’ll never need to know French”, I married a Frenchman, moved to France, had three bilingual children, and returned to Australia ten years later to become a French teacher, then a Languages Education Consultant and researcher in Applied Linguistics.

I’ve had a passion for reading, writing, and language in general since my earliest childhood days, and my first and most heart-felt goal has always been to entertain and inspire readers with words. I choose to believe in the inherent potential for goodness in people, and that ultimately, love will conquer all. So those themes weave themselves through my books regardless of the genre, whether it’s my magical realism series Talents of Terra with just a touch of sweet romance, or my contemporary romance series where love takes centre stage with a serious dose of spice to heat things up.

These days, I combine my passion for writing with my love of being on the water; my partner and I chase the sun by spending half the year on our 14-metre barge on the French canals, and half the year in the Far North of New Zealand. Being a blue nomad gives me the time to write, and the lifestyle provides the headspace to live in the moment and cherish each adventure.

I love hearing from readers; you are the reason I write. So please get in touch by dropping me an email below or connecting with me on Facebook. I reply to every contact, but if we’re on a boat in an area with no wifi, it might take me a little while, until we’re back in range.
